Connecting to Dialog and DataStar Online Services The Dialog and DataStar online services from Thomson Scientific are accessible via the Internet using TCP/IP protocols, most commonly using:
Internet access is available at the desktop in most businesses and academic institutions. Internet Service Providers (ISP) also provide Internet access for a fee by means of a telephone dial-up connection, DSL, broadband cable, or wireless service. Contact your local telecommunications services provider for details on how you can connect to the Internet. Please note that, effective June 2006, X.25 access was discontinued. Please consult the table below for available access methods. In addition to Internet access, you will also need a valid user account for Dialog or DataStar. Each account is assigned a User ID and password that are required in order to log on to the service. Institutions also may opt for automatic authentication for some Dialog or DataStar services in lieu of individual User IDs and passwords. *TELNET access is also available for text-only access to DialogClassic and DataStarClassic. Software must be installed on your local machine or network, but is included with most current Web browsers.
