FSTA Expands Coverage to Include Pet Foods

Food Science and Technology Abstracts® (FSTA) (FSTA) has expanded its coverage to include pet foods. New journals have been added to the serial publications list and a broader range of material from veterinary journals, such as Journal of Veterinary Public Health and Veterinary Research, as well as Pet Food Industry and Pet Products News International, is included. Patent records on pet foods and pet food reports, books and other materials are also available.

MEDLINE Suspends Updating for Annual
Re-indexing

MEDLINE® (MEDL, MEZZ) has suspended updating, as it does every year, while the National Library of Medicine (NLM) re-indexes the file with new and changed Medical Subject Headings (MeSH). The file is expected to start updating again towards the end of 2006 or beginning of 2007. The full reload will take place in early 2007.

SciTech Data Expanded with Addition of TULSA: Petroleum Abstracts

TULSA: Petroleum Abstracts (TULS, TUSL), the world's leading source of published information on oil and gas exploration, production, transport and storage, is now available on DataStar. Petroleum Abstracts contains full bibliographic citations, abstracts and indexing of scientific articles, patents, meeting papers and government reports of interest to geologists, geophysicists, petroleum engineers and other professionals in the oil and gas exploration and production industry.

Information in TULSA comes from 300 journals and more than 200 conference proceedings, plus patent gazettes and fulltext patents, government documents and reports, dissertations, books, maps and many other sources. In addition, TVOC Vocabulary file (TVOC) is an invaluable resource in searching the file as it gives you access to the controlled descriptor terms used in TULSA.

Unavailable on the Internet, the material in TULSA represents technical literature of lasting value, gathered from worldwide sources. TULS covers from 1965 to the present and is updated weekly; TUSL contains the latest 10 years and is updated quarterly.

Access to TUSL, TULS and TVOC is restricted to licensed Petroleum Abstracts subscribers. For more information on becoming a subscriber, contact your account representative or the Knowledge Center.

DataStar Functionality Enhancements

DataStar Adds Clipboard Functionality

In response to customer requests, a new clipboard feature has been added to DataStar Classic and DataStarWeb. The clipboard provides a temporary repository to collect selected citations from one or multiple searches.

Documents can be moved into the clipboard from either the title or document page within DataStar by selecting them and clicking the button "Copy to Clipboard." The collected citations are kept for the duration of your search session and can then be displayed, printed, saved or e-mailed. Citations can also be removed from the clipboard.

BASE-DataStar Database Guides Enhanced with Features List

An enhancement to BASE–DataStar Database Guides (BASE) database allows searches to more easily compile database lists based on key DataStar features. Using checkboxes at the bottom of the Advanced Search screen, you can locate databases that support Alerts, Dialog eLinks, Electronic Redistribution & Archiving (ERA), Images, RIS and Thesauri.

Also, within the File Type paragraph, flags have been added to indicate whether a database supports the same list of features.

BASE is the central repository for information related to all of the DataStar databases, including subject matter and how to best search the databases.

Sci-Tech Content Updates

Adis Clinical Trials Insight Reloaded with New Fields

BeekersAdis Clinical Trails Insight (ACTI) has been reloaded with new fields to let you pinpoint exactly the information you need and track the latest developments in ongoing clinical trials. New fields in the file include: Drug Name, References, ATC WHO Codes, EphMRA codes, creation date, study identifiers, Adis R&D Insight (ADRD) links, meeting name, study name, patient minimum and maximum age/units, planned number of patients, Study status and Latest update date.

Comprehensive Information about Ongoing Trials
Updated weekly, Adis Clinical Trials Insight is the only place to retrieve data about ongoing trials, as well as presented, and published trial data, in a single searchable database. Set up Alerts to help identify and assess the growing universe of clinical trial studies for new drugs and therapies. The database also contains full assessments of important trials from 1990 to the present and includes coverage of more than 40,000 published and ongoing trials per year.

Publisher Records in MEDLINE® on DataStar

Publisher records are now available in MEDLINE (MEDL, MEZZ, MEIP) on DataStar. For the most part, these are articles published on the Internet before they are assigned to any particular journal volume, issue or pagination. Eventually, these records are sent through the full reviewing and indexing process.

There are several differences between these records and those in MEDLINE:

  • Foreign language articles often do not have an English-language title
  • Some records are out of MEDLINE’s usual content scope
  • Journal titles are only available in abbreviated form

Publisher records are handled in the same way as other “In Process” records and will be overwritten when they appear in MEDLINE later. You can retrieve Publisher records on DataStar with PUBLISHER=YES or PUBLISHER.AN. and identify them by the presence of the word “Publisher” in the Accession Number field.

IMS R&D Focus Reloaded on DataStar

IMS R&D Focus (IPUR) on DataStar has been reloaded resulting in more content and improved functionality. The additional content elements will enable you to identify important concepts in drug research such as:

  • Whether the drug is in active development
  • Whether the document has undergone a major change – this is particularly useful for Alerts profiles
  • Whether the major change has to do with a development phase change
  • The Route of Administration
