  A surgical cassette (200) is provided having a fluid pressure sensing
      chamber (210) with a tubing extension (240') extending through a void
      (230') in the chamber. The tubing contains at least one port (260')
      that fluidly communicate(s) with the pressure sensing chamber, being
      adapted to allow the purging of air from the chamber during initial
      priming of the cassette, but being sized so that air bubbles entering
      the tubing extension cannot easily flow into the chamber. The tubing
      extension further contains a reduced diameter portion (241) that
      creates a pressure differential upstream and downstream of a flow
      restrictor (242). The differential pressure creates flow through the
      chamber under high liquid flow and turbulent liquid flow events.
