COMBINED NOMENCLATURE:
The system of classifying products for trade purposes, used by all EU-member countries. It is an 8-digit code, the first 6 digits of which are based on the Harmonised System

The trading country to which goods are to be exported
COUNTRY OF ORIGIN:

The trading country from which the goods were last consigned, not the country from which they originated

EX-WORKS:

FREE ALONGSIDE SHIP:
A method of calculating the value of trade goods. Rarely used for trade statistics purposes. FAS is normally applied to exports.

FREE ON BOARD:
(i.e., the cost of the goods, including the costs of loading, but not including insurance and ongoing freight charges): a method of calculating the value of traded goods. FOB is normally applied to exports.

H
HARMONISED SYSTEM:
A system of classifying products for trade purposes developed by the Customs Cooperation Council (CCC) in Brussels and its 150 members countries. Individual countries use their own national classifications but the first 6 digits are standard (or 'harmonised') across all countries using the system. The first countries introduced the system in 1988 and it is now used by over 50 countries (including TradStat reporting countries)

IMPORT/EXPORT REPORT:
Give both imports and exports in the same report. This report is best suited to one time period (i.e., one month or one year)

NESOI:
Not elsewhere specified or indicated. Only used by U.S. Customs. Others use NES.
NIMEXE:
A former system of classifying products, used by EU-member countries to record trade. Valid until the end of 1987. A 6-digit classification, the first four digits of which were based on the Customs Common Council Nomenclature (CCCN). Replaced in 1988 by the Harmonised System.
NOT DETERMINED:
An umbrella term for classifying trade that is not clear. For example, the country being exported to is unknown so the trade listed is 'not determined.'

PRICE:
The average unit price. TradStat calculates the price by dividing the value by the quantity. The price is defined as the price per quantity unit (e.g., the price per kilo/litre)
PRIMARY UNIT:
The main unit of quantity used to record trade. For the majority of countries, the primary unit is consistently reported by weight.

PRODUCT CODE:
Code used by customs' authorities to classify the imports and/or exports of a traded product or commodity. The product code used to represent a product may vary from country to country.
PVOC:
A dictionary-type database containing the product codes and descriptions for each classification. Available on DataStar.

QUANTITY;
The total quantity of trade recorded for a given trading period (monthly or year-to-date)

REPORT, IMPORT/EXPORT:

REPORT, TREND:

RE-EXPORTS:
Goods that have been imported, and then re-exported to the final country of destination, as is the case for much of Hong Kong's trade.
RE-IMPORTS:
Goods that are re-imported to the country of export (for example, in cases where goods are returned to the exporter before reading their destination)
REPORTING COUNTRY:
A country that reports its trade to TradStat
REPORTING MONTH:
The month in which trade took place

SCHEDULE B (USA):
A former system of classifying exports, used by the United States. Valid until the end of 1988. A 7-digit classification.
SECONDARY UNIT:

STORES & PROVISIONS:
The goods have been exported to a ship, usually for use on that vessel.
SUB-DIVISION, NATIONAL:
The extra digit(s) added to a product code from the EU classification to create a national code. At the national level, the extra digits used by one EU-Member country for a product are not necessarily the same as that used by another country. No longer valid from January 1996.
SUPPLEMENTARY UNITS:
Additional units of quantity (e.g., litres, pairs, square metres, etc.) for which trade may be recorded. A secondary unit may be reported, if appropriate.

SUPPRESS ALL:
All trading partners have been suppressed and the quantity and value shown represents total trade
SUPPRESS NON-EC:
The trading partner details from outside the European Union only have been suppressed. The quantity and value shown represents non-EU trade.
SUPPRESS EC:
The trading partners from within the European Union only have been suppressed. The quantity and value shown represent trade within the EU.

TARIC:
The Integrated Tariff of the Community -- An acronym for Tarif Integre des Communautes Europeennes. Relates to the duties payable on products from the Combined Nomenclature.

TARIFF SCHEDULE A (USA):
A former system of classifying imports, used by the United States. Valid until the end of 1988. A 7-digit classification.
TRADE:
IMPORTS:
Country of origin data is reported by each country (i.e., the trading country is shown as the country where the goods originated, and not the last port of consignment)
EXPORTS:
Country of destination
Belgium and Hong Kong also have re-exports (goods that have been imported, and then re-exported to the final country of destination)
TRADING COUNTRY:
Any country that trades with a TradStat reporting country
TRADING PARTNER:
*see Trading Country
TradStat:
Abbreviation for the TradStat World Trade Statistics service (a composite of "trade statistics")
TREND REPORT:
Give either imports or exports and is best suited to a range of months or a range of years
TRUNCATION:
A TradStat option to "truncate" a product code by entering only the first 2 digits or more of a product code to produce a report for the product group. Also an option in the product files to identify all codes in the same product group.

The total value or cost of goods (invoice value) of all individual shipments traded in the reporting time period (monthly or year-to-date)
